Kathmandu: A total of 52 candidates have submitted their nomination papers for the upcoming National Assembly seat elections, set to take place on January 25. The candidates filed their nominations in various categories across the seven provinces, reflecting a diverse representation.

The breakdown of candidates includes 17 in the women's category, six in the Dalit category, eight in the persons with disabilities or minority communities category, and 21 under other groups. The Election Commission facilitated the nomination process, with candidates registering their papers at the designated Election Officer offices in each province from 10 am to 3 pm.

The distribution of candidates across provinces is as follows: five candidates each in Koshi and Madhes provinces, 15 in Bagmati, eight in Gandaki, seven in Lumbini province, and six each in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Following the nomination phase, the Election Commission has outlined the upcoming schedule: complaints against candidates can be lodged on January 9, the review of nomination papers and complaints will occur on January 10 and 11, candidates can withdraw their names on January 12, and the final list will be published with the distribution of election symbols on January 13. The electoral process continues in preparation for the National Assembly elections.
